SSC Youth Leaders Explore Global Opportunities through U.S. Exchange Information Session
Siquijor State College (SSC) under the administration of SUC President II, Dr. Steven J. Sumaylo continues to empower its student leaders with opportunities for growth and global engagement as it hosts the Information Session in the U.S. Exchange Programs and Leadership Development on August 8, 2025, at the SSC Convention Center.
The activity formed part of the 2025 Linggo ng Kabataan celebration with the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” spearheaded by the Provincial Sanggunian Kabataan Federation led by President Hon. Christian Ian Cariño, in partnership with the Provincial Youth Development Office under Mr. Dex Magtahas.
The event gathered youth leaders from SSC’s school-based organizations, the SSC Student Government Council, and the municipal federations from all six municipalities of Siquijor Province, along with representatives from school and sanggunian councils. Together, they explored pathways to international education and leadership development, reflecting SSC’s commitment to preparing its students to be globally competitive while staying grounded in community service.
The session introduced participants to various academic and exchange opportunities in the United States, presented by Mr. George Mesthos, Deputy Director for Public Engagement, and Mr. Rhyn Anthony Esolana, Experiential Learning Coordinator of the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, A special focus was placed on the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), a flagship program that equips emerging youth leaders in the region with skills, networks, and resources to drive positive change.
“Although the session was brief, it was packed with insightful information and the giveaways added an engaging touch, making the event more enjoyable for all of us. We are also thankful for YSEALI because it opened doors to opportunities we might have otherwise overlooked. If ever we have the chance to become exchange students, we will definitely carry the pride and honor of our beloved institution wherever we go.” shared by Vebil Jade Lou Vidad, SSC SG President.
By engaging in this meaningful dialogue, SSC youth leaders not only gained insights into international opportunities but also strengthened their resolve to contribute to local and global initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This reflects Siquijor State College’s vision of nurturing responsible, innovative, and community-oriented leaders who can thrive both in the Philippines and on the world stage.
