SSC Records Officers Strengthen Skills at National GROAP Conference

Siquijor State College continues its commitment to effective and transparent public service through active participation in national initiatives. SSC Records Officer III, Kyle Samson and Records Officer I, Mary Grace Aseñas recently attended the National Conference of the Government Records Officers Association of the Philippines (GROAP), Inc., which tackled the “Current-Based Approach of Managing Files for an Effective Records Management Program in Public Office” on 13-15 August 2025 at Davao City.

The conference placed a spotlight on policies, strategies, and best practices for implementing efficient records management in public offices. Discussions centered on enhancing compliance with regulatory requirements, improving information-handling processes, and promoting transparency and accountability in government operations.

For SSC, the learning exchange was timely and relevant, aligning with the Records Management Unit’s ongoing project of migrating the College’s records from traditional to hybrid systems. This modernization effort seeks to boost accessibility, safeguard sensitive data, and streamline operations across all departments.

The sessions also reinforced the importance of adhering to oversight laws, including Republic Act No. 9470, the Freedom of Information Act, and the Data Privacy Law of 2012. These legal frameworks guide records officers in ensuring that both digital and physical documents are handled with integrity, security, and efficiency.

By equipping its personnel with advanced records management knowledge, SSC strengthens its role as a model for good governance in the province. The College remains steadfast in its mission to foster a culture of accountability, efficiency, and service excellence for the Siquijodnon community.
