Despite the short notice, limited resources, and only two weeks of preparation, the Siquijor State College proved that with unity, determination, and passion can overcome all challenges. Out of 22 participating schools in the province with submitted entries, JHS and SHS departments of SSC proudly earned 2nd Place and the People’s Choice Award with the short film entry entitled ‘My Father Is a Human Drone’ under the guidance of their coach, Ms. Jazzy Lyle Sarmiento Samson, Instructor I and the support and supervision of Ms. Ferilyn Maraño, JHS Principal and Ms. Mary Grace Lubguban, SHS Principal. Additionally, Mr. Keith Calisquez, one of the cast, won a Best Supporting Actor.

“I love going around the island every weekend while observing and one thing that really captured my attention every time is the “human drones” which exist in Paliton Beach and Cambugahay Falls. It is undeniable that they also have promoted the tourism of these spots through their creativity and drive. It may look easy but behind those wondrous reels that they produced is determination and creativity. You can’t just copy it without the whispers and guidance of nature, that is why the main gist of our plot is, “Siquijor provides.” Ms. Samson reiterated the reason behind their chosen entry ‘My Father Is a Human Drone’.
The success of IslaKwento marks a milestone for Siquijor’s creative industry. Through the strong support of the visionary leadership of SUC President II, Dr. Steven J. Sumaylo, Siquijor State College continues to nurture young talents and empower students to bring the island’s stories to life. With this achievement, the college reaffirms its role in preserving Siquijor’s rich cultural identity while showcasing the creativity and brilliance of its people.
