Sailing with Integrity: SSC Observes Seafarer’s Day

Theme: Harassment-Free Ship – Promoting Respect, Safety, and Solidarity at Sea

In observance of International Seafarer’s Day, the College of Maritime Education of Siquijor State College hosted a series of impactful activities that underscore the strength, purpose, and global relevance of SSC’s maritime programs and graduates.

The celebration was graced by OIC-EW Reymarc P. Diaz of Transocean Shipmanagement Phils., Inc., as Guest Speaker, along with SUC President II, Dr. Steven J. Sumaylo, whose presence highlighted the importance of fostering inclusive, respectful, and harassment-free environments at sea. Through their insights, students and faculty engaged in meaningful discussions on building a culture of safety, dignity, and solidarity aboard ships.

The event also featured an On-Board Training Orientation and a formal Turnover Ceremony, further reinforcing the College’s commitment to preparing cadets for real-world maritime practice—grounded in discipline, professionalism, and global readiness.

Attended by the faculty, staff, and students of the BSMT and BSMAR-E programs, the celebration was successfully led by Dr. Roel D. Taroc, Director of the College of Maritime Education, and Dean 3/E Gilbert P. Sumalpong, whose leadership continues to ensure that SSC maritime cadets are well-equipped to navigate both the technical and ethical demands of the maritime profession.

As SSC commemorates the contributions of seafarers around the world, it remains steadfast in its mission to produce globally competent maritime professionals who uphold the highest standards of integrity, safety, and service at sea.
