SSC Extends Technological Expertise to Municipality of Larena
True to its mission of innovation, Siquijor State College remains committed to fostering innovation by empowering local communities by conducting a training: Municipality of Larena Water Billing System held at the SSC Meeting Hall A on November 13, 2025.
Aiming to strengthen the systems that sustain and serve the community, the one-day training gathered waterworks personnel, accounting and collection staff, academic community and barangay representatives from the Municipality of Larena. The LGU Larena is headed by Mayor Cyrus Vincent Calibo together with Hon. Rockshell Camero and Hon. Dindo Larot were also acknowledged for their presence, as well as for their continued support and commitment to the constituents of Larena.





This system was developed by selected students Bachelor of Science in Information Technology led by Mr. Christian Butlig, System Programmer under the class of Engr. Josephine Munasque and with the guidance of Mr. Christopher Y. Sabado, ICT Director and Project Adviser. Truly, classroom learning and student innovation can actually address real community needs.


“Through this initiative, we develop not only technological and administrative efficiency but also a deeper sense of accountability, integrity, and care. The knowledge and skills cultivated here aim to enrich lives, empower communities, and ensure that every household in Larena receives the service it rightfully deserves.” SUC President II, Dr. Steven J. Sumaylo expressed this in his inspirational message.


The event won’t be successful without the tireless effort of the administration and the people of the SSC community. Joining the SSC team were Mrs. Philna S. Palongpalong, Extension Director; Dr. Dawn Iris Calibo-Senit, Research Director; Mr. Jay Louie L. Jarbonido, Presidential Management Staff Director; and the College of Technology led by COT Dean, Dr. Rolito Estrellado and all his faculty and staff.



The one-day training capacitates the personnel of the municipality of Larena with hand-on knowledge practical skills using the newly developed automated system composed of five module lectures that strengthened the local government of Larena to adopt a more efficient and technology based approach in managing its water billing operation. Participants actively participated and raised questions, making the discussion lively and interactive.
Moreover, a Technology Licensing Agreement will take place between SSC and the Municipality of Larena, once all arrangements are finalized. This event highlights the role of SSC in extending its expertise and innovation to partner communities. This only proves that innovation and education can go hand in hand in creating meaningful change within local communities.
