SSC Extends Help to CTU Daanbantayan for Earthquake-Affected Students and Families

Siquijor State College (SSC) showed the true spirit of bayanihan by giving help to Cebu Technological University (CTU) Daanbantayan Campus. On October 24, 2025, SSC donated goods and supplies for students and families affected by the earthquake that hit Northern Cebu. The strong quake caused damage to many homes and schools, leaving families in need of immediate support. Through this effort, SSC aimed to bring comfort and hope to those who were affected.
This act of kindness and compassion was led by Dr. Steven J. Sumaylo, SUC President II of Siquijor State College together with Mrs. Philna S. Palongpalong, Extension Director; Mrs. Peachy T. Baquilta, Assistant Extension Director; Mr. John Anthony Y. Jimenez, Student Government Adviser. Together, they represented the college’s care and concern for others. The SSC community also played an important role in making this donation possible. Students, faculty, and staff worked together to collect and prepare the items for donation.

“We cannot turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to what was really happening to our neighboring provinces. You know pretty well that the earthquake struck in the area in Northern Cebu. We decided and we would like to ask you also that you will be with our decision that we will just have to donate the tumblers that will supposed to be our token for this celebration to the students of CTU-North Campus in order for them to really feel the Siquijor State College is with them in this time of difficulties.” Dr. Sumaylo declared during the recent World Teachers’ Day celebration last October 17, 2025, at El Pergentina Beach Resort, Tongo, Siquijor where the whole SSC faculty and staff wholeheartedly agreed.
Making this happen, as part of the continuous relief distribution to the affected areas, SSC donated 200 tumblers to CTU-DB in which 184 of them were given to CTU-DB faculty and staff, while the remaining 16 were handed to its students.
CTU-DB expressed their deepest gratitude to Siquijor State College that continues to build connections and hope. Truly, helping one another makes recovery faster and communities stronger. Together, we move forward as one!
