SSC Joins Data Privacy Protection Competency Framework Training for PIO’s to Strengthen Information Security

“Do not collect, if you cannot protect– Data collection comes with responsibility. If there’s no guarantee of protection, then collecting it in the first place is a violation of trust and privacy. With this principle in action, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), in collaboration with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Siquijor Association of Information Disseminators (SAID), spearheaded a Data Privacy Protection Competency Framework Training held on October 1–3, 2025 at the DICT Provincial Office, Siquijor Business and Convention Center, Poblacion, Siquijor.

Information officers, communication practitioners, and representatives from government offices and partner institutions in the province of Siquijor, gathered together to actively engage in sessions on responsible data handling, safeguarding personal information, and promoting accountability in information dissemination. Among them is Mr. Jay Louie L. Jarbonido, PIO/PMS Director/Chief of Staff, who represented Siquijor State College, completed the training, and also presented the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) and was awarded as Best Presenter.

The three-day training sought to enhance the knowledge and competencies of participants on data privacy protection in alignment with the Data Privacy Act of 2012. This initiative reflects the government’s continuing commitment to promote digital trust, protect citizens’ data, and strengthen institutional compliance with privacy standards in an increasingly digital society.

The training concluded with a call for participants to apply the knowledge gained in their respective workplaces, ensuring that information management and communication practices uphold the highest standards of privacy and security. At Siquijor State College, this commitment is strengthened by the leadership of SUC President II, Dr. Steven J. Sumaylo, who firmly supports efforts to protect information and maintain the trust of stakeholders.
