Another significant event was observed by the College of Business and Management (CBM) of Siquijor State College as they celebrated the 8th World Tourism Day bearing the theme: “1 Billion Tourists, 1 Billion Opportunities” last September 28, 2015.
The said event started as the participants assembled right after the flag ceremony. It was followed by a street parade led by SSC Drum and Bugle Corps. After which, the program proper was held at the Gabaldon. It formally started with a prayer given by Hannah Estelle Tudio and was followed by an opening remarks delivered by Dr. Expedita O. Duran. Shortly after, the fourth year and third year tourism students showcased their talents as they presented an intermission number.
A moment later, the participants proceed to the AVR for the symposium. It was formally started with the singing of the national anthem led by Angelica Balatero and an opening prayer by Kristine Bernadette Bation. Mrs. Cyd A. Sarmiento gave her welcome address and introduced the keynote speaker, Ms. Sarra Eullaran Busio, who discussed tactfully the salient points about the theme. Subsequently, the open forum took place. Thereafter, the first year tourism students presented another intermission number. The symposium ended after giving the certificate and token to the speaker.
As part of the Tourism Day celebration, tourism students displayed various native products and there were also some contests held. Such contests were essay writing, tour-guiding, photography, quiz bee and poster-making. The contests started at exactly 1 p.m. and were participated by the tourism students themselves. Thereafter, the much awaited announcement of winners followed. The event ended with a zumba and an intermission number by Panaenae boys.
Indeed, the World Tourism Day celebration was a great success. It definitely showed how the CBM highlighted the global potential of tourism for socio-economic development to become a powerful force to make difference in the lives of millions of people.
